Portraits of children, such as this one of my granddaughter, are best accomplished using photography; Most children wouldn’t enjoy sitting still for very long! Lighting for painting reference photos is different from conventional studio portrait photograph lighting; paintings become more dimensional with strong directional lighting and strong shadows, whereas the goal of studio photography is often to soften lights and shadows.
