I was asked by a professional who works with dyslexic children, to do an inspirational painting emphasizing four positive traits.  She provided a stick-figure sketch and outline of the concept:

The requirements were: “A Motivational painting for dyslexic children.  Standing on open books in power poses. Bright colors.  Happy triumphant kids. Clear, easy to read font.”  My solution was to make the four traits into the titles on the spines of four colorful, stacked books in fonts that reflect each trait. I had the children standing on an open book on top of the stack, which placed the emphasis on the children as the focal point of the composition. The open book is also symbolic of a read book being foundational.  I presented my concept sketch to the customer, who approved it:

Bright colors were chosen, and harmonized with a warm toned palette.  The result was received with enthusiasm by the professional, who now displays it in her counseling office.
